Agile Leaders Challenge Training Program

The Agile Leaders Challenge is a new professional development programme for dance and creative media professionals designed to help them develop the skills and mindset that will help them to create a thriving business that makes a meaningful impact.

In this instance, dance professionals can be defined as individuals who have trained (formally or informally) in any form of dance or movement and consider this to be a significant aspect of their professional life whether through performance, choreography or teaching.  And creative media professionals includes illustrators, graphic designers, photographers, animators, etc.

The program is designed to elevate the participants’ creative practice through expanding and improving their skills in the following areas:

  • Project Management
  • Financial Management
  • Marketing and Publicity

The Agile Leaders Challenge is designed for teams of 2-5 practitioners (a mix of both dance and creative media professionals) who, in addition to their creative skills can clearly demonstrate leadership potential and an entrepreneurial spirit.

The program will take place from January-May 2011 and will be made up of two residential weekend intensives, which ‘sandwich’ a series of creative labs, business skills workshops and action-learning sets. The participants will work in small groups on collaborative projects (Big Ideas) which will culminate in a high profile public showcase/sharing.

Participants must be able to commit to attending both weekends, all the action learning sets and the showcase, the dates of which are still being finalized.  The following are the provisional dates:

Opening Weekend: 14-16 January 2011

Skills Injection & Action Learning Sets
Project Management: Mid-February 2011
Financial Management: 22 February 2011
Marketing and Publicity: 22 March 2011
Making it Happen Together: 12 April 2011

The Big Weekend: 29 April – 01 May 2011

The Showcase: May 2011 (date TBC)

The weekend intensives will take place at Highgate House, an award-winning conference venue in Northamptonshire.

The action learning sets and skills injections will take place at Stratford Circus in East London.

The venue for the final showcase is in the process of being confirmed.

The program is run by a consortium made up of three partners – the Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD), East London Dance and Ochee Design with the support of the Cultural Leadership Programme.  The partners are working closely with CIDA – The Creativity and Innovation Company (UK) in the design of the Agile Leaders Challenge.
