Make History Work

Make History Work is a creative and cultural program of activities and events based on African and Caribbean Dance for Black History Month organised by IRIE! dance theatre in partnership with the Kon-Kon-Te Cultural Group led by Desmond Clarke.

The aim of the Make History Work program is to explore our local history and the individuals creating that history and to discover how we often apply our history and our ancestry to our lives without being consciously aware of doing so.

And, IRIE! dance theatre with the Kon-Kon-Te Cultural Group will, for the second year running, be delivering its Make History Work schools’ program.

Make History Work School Workshop at Moonshot Centre

This program is based around creative and cultural practices such as:

  • Games
  • Songs
  • Stories
  • Sayings

The program’s aims are to engage, educate and excite young people about their surroundings and the profound effect that history has on how and who we are today.  The following video provides a synopsis of some the workshops that took place last year.

Each two (2) hour workshop will be delivered by experienced tutors from IRIE! and Kon-Kon-Te. We are able to facilitate a maximum of 30 students in each session accompanied by a minimum of two (2) teachers.

The program will run from one week from 10-14 October 2011 and there will be two (2) sessions per day.

The morning sessions run from 10:00am – 12:00pm.

Testimonials

The children will always remember the sessions; they still talk fondly of their visit. So thank you fro giving the children the opportunity to attend the workshop. They asked the day after can we go today as well!
Childeric Primary School

The pace and structure worked well for the class. The children enjoyed the range of activities they took part in and they were pitched at the right level…all the children were able to take an active part throughout.
