Dance Yourself Fit with Salsa Aerobics, African and Caribbean Dance
IRIE! dance theatre’s Dance Yourself Fit program starts again on Monday 17 January.
Adults can choose from 3 classes:
- Salsa Aerobics on Mondays from 7:30-9:00pm
- Caribbean Dance on Tuesdays from 7:30-9:00pm
- African Dance on Fridays from 7:00-8:30pm
The Salsa Aerobics class will be taught by Juan Carlos Riaño. Juan Carlos is originally from Colombia where he started his dance teaching training and been part of different Latin Dance Groups and companies since arriving to London in 2004. In 2009, after completing his Salsa Dance Teacher Diploma at the IDTA (International Dance Teachers’ Association) in Brighton he set up his own dance company called Carlito’s Way Salsa & Fitness.
The Caribbean dance classes will be taught by Sheba Monsterrat – one of IRIE!’s most experienced dance teachers. Sheba was a member of the first group of artists to complete IRIE! dance theatre’s original African and Caribbean Dance Diploma. (IRIE! no longer runs this program but instead, in partnership with City & Islington College and London Metropolitan University, runs a Dance Foundation Degree program).
The African dance classes will be taught by Charles Maema who is originally from South Africa and held the position of African Dance lecturer for New Africa Theater Academy for 8 years. Charles is also one of the tutors on the Dance Foundation Degree program. He is also a part-time lecturer at Kingston University and the University of Surrey.
