Workshops are delivered in line with the National Curriculum and can contribute to cross-curricular projects.
DANCE WORKSHOPS - TASTER SESSION
Introduces the participants to basic movements and
rhythmic qualities of African, Caribbean dance.
Recommended 1 -1.5hrs duration
DANCE WORKSHOPS - ONE-DAY WORKSHOP
Engages the participants in a variety of skills through creative interaction, rhythmic interpretation and inspiring performance skills.
Recommended 1 day sharing at the end of the day with dedicated group.
RESIDENCY
Residencies take the form of taster sessions or one day workshops that will build a repertoire and compliment other areas of the school curriculum, as well as engaging he school community through a final sharing/ performance.
Recommended minimum 2 days – 2 weeks.
MUSIC WORKSHOPS
IRIE! music workshops enable participants to explore Caribbean and/ or African Rhythms – their history and style. Sessions include drumming, percussion, games and songs. Participants will be given the opportunity to:
• Play traditional drums and percussive instruments.
• Listen and respond individually or in groups.
• Learn simple and according to ability more complicated patterns.
• Learn and sing traditional songs by memory
• Compose and play together as a group whenever possible
• Accompany other students in dance classes and/or performance when appropriate.
Recommended music workshops can be anything from 1x session to
1 x week residency
SPECIAL PROJECTS
The special projects programme operates out of hours, holidays, half terms and weekends. Our projects focus on widening participation, inclusion and experiential learning whilst stimulating and engaging participants in socio-cultural activities.
Recommended for any activity/residency occurring during the holidays or weekends 2 x days – 2 x weeks.
