About the event

RED is the powerful opening movement of a suite of four dances representing Red, Gold, Green & Black – the colours of the Rastafarian flag. In this section, red symbolises the blood that unites all people of African ancestry, alongside the sacrifice and ongoing struggle for resistance and liberation.
Exploring the colour’s inherent vibrancy, passion, danger, and power, the choreography captures the resilience and energy of African & Caribbean
dance, beautifully highlighting the spirituality, symbolisms and groundedness of movements stimulated through the spine, hips and feet.
GROUNDATION is a collection of West African traditional dances and Caribbean folk dances, that represent social, ritual and religious rites. These dances are the foundation of the movement language and style of IRIE! dance theatre.
